Energy Savings Program Rebate Amounts

Once you determine your income level, you can review the rebate you will get for mini-split/ductless installation, should you apply for pre-approval and receive your eligibility code. Please note that this rebate is for condo/apartments only, for other residential types, please go here.

The home must be your year-round primary residence and it has to be at least 12 months old

The home must be one of the following residential type:

a. An apartment/condo with up to 6 storeys, shared common area lighting and heating, and shared hallways or elevator.

b. Stacked townhouse buildings with their own front entrances and no shared internal corridors.

c. Multiplex residential building with six or more units, each with their own front entrances and no shared internal corridors.

Home must be at or less than $772,000 total value under BC Assessment .

You need to have an utility account with Fortis BC, BC Hydro or a municipal utility. The electricity account has to be under the name of you or someone in your household

The primary heating source must be powered by electricity (i.e. electric baseboard, radiant ceilings, radiant floors)

If you live in a strata/equity co-op unit, Strata Corporation or Equity Co-Op Consent Form is required; if you are a renter, Landlord Consent Form is required. If you rent a strata unit, both forms are required.

You need an eligibility code before installation

The new heat pump must be replacing an existing primary heating system (that heats 50% of the home for the entire heating system to 21°C) that heats a main living area (e.g. living room). The existing system has to be a hard-wired electric heating system (i.e. electric baseboard, radiant ceilings, radiant floors)

The new heat pump system must have an AHRI certification and be listed on the qualified heat pump product list

Replacing an existing heat pump or adding a head to an existing heat pump is not eligible. Emergency replacement of an existing broken electric heating system is eligible

BC Hydro Rebate

BC Hydro provides mini-split/ductless heat pump rebates for customers who live in a condo/apartment currently who have an existing electric system that can be upgraded. You can get up to $2,250 in rebates from BC Hydro.

BC Hydro Eligibility Requirements

You need a pre-approval code before installation. You can apply here. The pre-approval code is valid for 6 months. If the home is in a strata or equity co-op building, upgrades must be approved by the strata or equity co-op board prior to requesting the pre-approval code.

Your home must be in a year-round primary residence which is one of the following residential type:

a. Low- and high-rise apartment buildings
b. Stacked townhome buildings
c. Multiplexes with six or more units

The home must be connected to a residential account with BC Hydro or the City of New Westminster, the account must be under you or a resident who lived in the home. If you are not the account holder, an utility account holder consent form is required

The unit must be heated primarily by electricity before the upgrade (e.g. electric baseboards, radiant ceilings, radiant floors, or forced-air furnace)

The new heat pump must be the primary system and replaces the existing system, one indoor head must service a main living area (e.g. living room) of the home. It has to be sized to maintain 21°C throughout the home at an outside temperature of -5°C

The new mini-split heat pump system must have an AHRI reference number and be on the rebate-eligible heat pump list

The mini-split must be installed in accordance with the equipment manufacturer's instructions and guidelines and all other requirements. Self-installations are not eligible

Replacing an existing heat pump or adding a head(s) to an existing heat pump are not eligible
